Formuler Z setup for IPTV

The instructions here apply to the Formuler Z range running MyTVOnline 2 or MyTVOnline 3 — in practice the Z8, Z8 Pro, Z10, Z10 Pro, Z11 Pro and Z11 Pro Max. The menu wording shifts slightly between versions but the sequence does not.

Formuler boxes run Android underneath, so anything that works on Android TV works here too. If you would rather use a different player, the Android TV route is available and nothing about the hardware prevents it. MyTVOnline is the reason most people buy these boxes, but it is not an obligation.

One practical note before starting: connect by ethernet for the initial setup even if the box will eventually run on Wi-Fi. It removes an entire class of failure from the first boot, and first boot is when you least want ambiguity about what went wrong.

These are two different ways of delivering the same subscription and your provider may support one or both. The portal method points the box at a server address, and the provider identifies you by the box's MAC address, which you must give them in advance. The Xtream Codes method identifies you by a username and password instead.

Xtream Codes is the better default for one reason above all others: it is portable. The credentials work on any device and any compatible player, so a factory reset costs you five minutes and a failed box costs you nothing but the hardware. A MAC-locked portal is bound to that one box, and replacing the hardware means going back to your provider to have a new MAC registered.

The portal method still has a place — some providers only offer it, and a few features are portal-only in MyTVOnline 3. But if both are on the table, take the one that does not tie your subscription to a serial number.

Give your provider the box's MAC address first and wait for confirmation that it has been registered. Doing this out of order produces an authorisation error that looks like a configuration mistake and is not one.

Open MyTVOnline from the home screen and go to the portal or playlist section, then choose to add a new portal. Enter a name you will recognise later, and the portal address exactly as your provider supplied it, including whether it ends in a path such as /c/ — that detail is not decorative and a portal address without it will fail.

Save and let the box load the profile. First load pulls the full lineup and guide and takes a couple of minutes on a large subscription; subsequent loads are much faster because the box caches. If it sits at the loading screen for more than five minutes, the address or the MAC registration is wrong, not slow.

In the same section, choose to add a playlist by Xtream Codes rather than a portal. You need three values from your provider: the server address, your username and your password. All three are case-sensitive and none of them tolerate a trailing space, which is easy to introduce with a remote.

Enter them, save, and load the profile. As with the portal method the first load is the slow one. Unlike the portal method there is no MAC step, so if the credentials are right it works immediately and if they are wrong you get an authentication error that names the actual problem.

Keep those three values somewhere you can find them. They are what lets you move to a new box, add a second device, or rebuild after a reset without contacting support — and the moment you need them is generally the moment the box has stopped working.

The MAC address is printed on a sticker underneath the box and shown on screen under Settings, then System or About, on the network information page. It is twelve hexadecimal characters, usually shown in pairs separated by colons.

Providers use it because a portal has no login screen — the box connects and the server has to identify the account from something. The MAC is the only unique identifier available, so it becomes the credential by default.

Two consequences follow, and both matter. A MAC address is not secret, so it is a weak credential; and if it is ever cloned, your provider sees two boxes on one account and the usual response is to suspend it. This is another argument for Xtream Codes where you have the choice: a password can be changed after a problem, and a MAC address cannot.

Portal loading failed, or a blank screen after adding a portal: the address is wrong or unreachable. Retype it rather than editing it, because the common cause is a character introduced by the remote that is invisible in the field.

Authorisation or account not found on a portal: the MAC has not been registered yet, or was registered incorrectly. Read the MAC back to your provider character by character — a transposed pair is the usual culprit and neither side can see it.

Channels listed but nothing plays: the profile loaded, so the account is fine and the problem is downstream. Check the network first, then try a single channel in a different player on the same box to establish whether it is MyTVOnline or the connection.

Guide missing while channels work: guide data loads after the lineup and is slower. Give it ten minutes before treating it as a fault, and if it is still empty after that, the guide source is a provider-side setting.

Everything worked, then stopped after a power cut: check that the box came back on the same network. Formuler boxes handle this well, but a router that reassigned addresses during the outage can leave the box connected to nothing in particular.

Buy from a general retailer rather than from an IPTV seller. The hardware is the same and the transaction is cleaner: a box with a subscription pre-attached ties two purchases together, and when one of them ends you discover what the other was actually worth.

Be sceptical of anything described as preloaded or as a lifetime box. A one-off payment cannot fund a recurring content cost indefinitely, so a lifetime subscription attached to hardware is either mispriced or is an exit plan with a countdown you cannot see. And check the box supports the delivery format your provider actually uses before ordering. 4KIPTV provisions M3U, MAG and Enigma2, so a Formuler Z is straightforward here — but that is not universal, and a box that cannot speak your provider's format is an expensive way to find out.
